The Strand of Pearls

Posted by Christina Scovone on Tuesday, January 31, 2012, In : Obedience

Daily Encouragement For January 31, 2012:

A cheerful girl with bouncy curls, who was almost five years old, saw them as her mother was at the checkout stand, a strand of pearls in a pink foil box.

"Oh please, Mommy. Can I have them? Please, Mommy, please!" Quickly, the mother checked the back of the little foil box and read the price tag. "$1.95, she said. “That's almost $2. If you really want them, I'll think of some extra chores for you and in no time you can save enough money...

Daily Encouragement For January 30:

To My Dear, Precious Child,

I see your struggles, I see your pain, and I am here to tell you that You are my child and I love you. I do not love you for what you have or have not done, I love you because you chose my Son. You accepted Him and received Him and now I accept you. It's just that simple. I love you!

God's Truths To Live By

Posted by Christina Scovone on Sunday, January 29, 2012, In : The Love Of God

Daily Encouragement For January 29:

God sees every tear, hears every fear, and touches every soul who draws near His Son.

God can mend a broken heart when He has all the pieces of the heart.

God makes the impossible possible by the impossible.

God never asks whether we can or cannot, He only asks if we are available.

Without God the world would be without form, void and dark.

Millions search for God, but find that He is right there in their heart.

God may calm the storm or He may make it stron...

Chain of Love

Posted by Christina Scovone on Saturday, January 28, 2012, In : Kindness

Daily Encouragement For January 28:

He almost didn't see the old lady, stranded on the side of the road. But even in the dim light of day, he could see she needed help. So he pulled up in front of her Mercedes and got out. His Pontiac was still sputtering when he approached her. Even with the smile on his face, she was worried. No one had stopped to help for the last hour or so. Was he going to hurt her? He didn't look safe, he looked poor and hungry. He could see that she was frightened, s...

The Christian Life

Posted by Christina Scovone on Friday, January 27, 2012, In : Serving God

Daily Encouragement For January 27:

The Christian life is a good, full, rewarding life like no other, but it is also one of great humbleness and humility. If God has called you to be truly like Jesus in all your spirit and soul He will put in you such demands of obedience that you will not even be allowed to follow other Christians.

In numerous ways, He seems to let other good people do things which He will never let you do. Others who seem to be very religious and useful may push themselve...

It's A Mess

Posted by Christina Scovone on Thursday, January 26, 2012, In : The Love Of God

Daily Encouragement For January 26:

Six-year-old Jacob decided one Saturday morning to fix his parents breakfast. He decided to make pancakes. He found a big bowl and spoon, pulled a chair to the counter, got some eggs and milk, opened the cupboard door and pulled out the heavy flour canister, spilling it on the floor. He scooped some of the flour into the bowl with his hands, mixed in most of a cup of milk, an egg, and added some sugar, leaving a big floury trail on the floor which by now ...

He Will Never Let Go

Posted by Christina Scovone on Wednesday, January 25, 2012, In : The Love Of God

Daily Encouragement For January 25, 2012

Some years ago on a hot summer day a little boy in south Florida decided to go for a swim in the old swimming hole behind his house. In a hurry to dive into the cool water, he jumped right in, not realizing that as he swam toward the middle of the lake, where an alligator was swimming. His mother looked out the window saw the alligator quickly approaching her son.

In utter fear, she ran toward the water, yelling for her son as loudly as she could. Hea...

The Very Best Room

Posted by Christina Scovone on Sunday, January 22, 2012, In : The Love Of God

Daily Encouragement For January 22:

Once there was this wealthy young man, he lived in a great, elaborate house
with dozens of rooms. Each room was more comfortable and more beautiful
than the one before it. There were paintings and sculptures, crystal chandeliers,
golden, ornate railings on the stairs. More beauty than most have ever seen.
One day he decided to invite Jesus to come home and stay with him. The Lord
accepted and when He arrived, the young man offered him the very best room

What More Must I Do

Posted by Christina Scovone on Thursday, January 19, 2012, In : Poems

This morning I asked the Lord, “What must I do? How much more can I take?
What more must I do for Your name's sake? I'm running this race to get closer to You.
But, my God, I can't believe the things I go through.

The stress and struggles of this thing called life. Will I marry and be in Your will?
Will I need to go back to school? Am I even in the right profession or just
stuck in a rut? Did I mail off that payment? Did I do the right thing? Did I say the right
thing? I know I'm forgetting...

Wait For God

Posted by Christina Scovone on Wednesday, January 18, 2012, In : The Love Of God

A man found a cocoon of a butterfly up over his awning.
One day a small opening appeared. He sat and watched
the butterfly for several hours as it struggled to force its
big body through that little hole. Then it seemed to stop
making any progress. It appeared as if it had gotten as
far as it could, and it could go no further. So the man
decided to help the butterfly.

He took a pair of scissors and snipped off the remaining
bit of the cocoon. The butterfly then emerged easily. But
it had a s...

The Empty Chair

Posted by Christina Scovone on Monday, January 16, 2012, In : Encouragement

A man's daughter had asked her local pastor to come and pray with her
father. The pastor agreed to go visit, when he arrived, he found the man
lying in bed with his head propped up on two pillows and an empty chair
beside his bed. The pastor assumed that the man had been informed of his
visit, "I guess you were expecting me," he said. "No, who are you?"
"I'm the new associate pastor at your local church, when I saw the empty chair,
I figured you knew I was going to show up."

You Are Valuable

Posted by Christina Scovone on Saturday, January 14, 2012, In : A Child Of God

A well known speaker started off his seminar by holding up a $100 bill.
In the room of 200, he asked, "Who would like this $100 bill?" Hands
started going up. He said, "I am going to give this $100 to one of you
but first, let me do this."

He proceeded to crumple the bill up. He then asked, "Who still
wants it?" Still the hands were up in the air. "Well," he replied, "What
if I do this?" And he dropped it on the ground and started to grind it
into the floor with his shoe.

He picked it up, now all cr...

A Little Bit of Faith Can Move Mountains

Posted by Christina Scovone on Friday, January 13, 2012, In : Faith

A small congregation in the foothills of the Great Smokies built a new
sanctuary on a piece of land willed to them by a church member. Ten days
before the new church was to open, the local building inspector informed the
pastor that the parking lot was inadequate for the size of the building.
Until the church doubled the size of the parking lot, they would not be able
to use the new sanctuary.

Unfortunately, the church with its undersized lot had used every inch of
their land except for the mount...

Beauty Tips For Everyone

Posted by Christina Scovone on Thursday, January 12, 2012, In : Serving God

For attractive lips, speak words of kindness.

For beautiful eyes, look for the good in other people.

To lose weight, let go of stress, hatred, anger, contentment and the need to
control others.

To improve your ears, listen to the word of God. Rather than focus on the
thorns of life, smell the roses and count your blessings, giving thanks for
each one of them.

To walk upright, walk with the knowledge and truth of God.

To strengthen your arms, hug at least 3 people a day. Touch someone with
your love...

I Asked God

Posted by Christina Scovone on Wednesday, January 11, 2012, In : The Love Of God

I asked God to take my pain away.
God said, No.
My grace is sufficient enough to help you through it.

I asked God to make my handicapped child whole.
God said, No.
Her spirit is whole, her body is only temporary.

I asked God to grant me patience.
God said, No.
Patience comes as you endure tribulations with Me.

I asked God to give me happiness.
God said, No.
I have given you blessings, happiness is up to you.

I asked God to spare me from my suffering.
God said, No.
Suffering draws you apart from worldly c...

A Child Of God

Posted by Christina Scovone on Tuesday, January 10, 2012, In : The Love Of God

Sometimes God brings people into your life and you know right away that
they were meant to be there. To serve some sort of purpose, teach you a lesson
or help you figure out who you are or who you want to become. You never
know who these people may be, but when you lock eyes with them, you know
that very moment that they will affect your life in some profound way.

Sometimes God allows things to happen to you at a time that may seem horrible,
painful and unfair, but in reflection you realize th...

To My Creation,
I love you. It's just that simple. No matter what you've done or what you haven't
done. I love you! You have an eternal spirit living within you, and I know your
spirit intimately, and I love you. You are on this earth, living your life, making

how to live, how to survive and it's a struggle. I know this and I understand, for
this is the struggle of life. But all of this can be made easier if you w...

The Hospital Stay

Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room. One man was
allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon to help drain the
fluid from his lungs. His bed was next to the room's only window.

The other man had to spend all his time flat on his back. The men talked for
hours on end. They spoke of their wives and families, their homes, their jobs,
their involvement in the military service, where they had been on vacation.
Every afternoon when the man in the bed by the wind...

A Conversation With God

Posted by Christina Scovone on Saturday, January 7, 2012, In : Serving God

One day, I woke early in the morning to watch the sunrise. Ah the
beauty of God's creation is beyond description. As I watched, I praised
God for His beautiful work. As I sat there, I felt the Lord's presence with me.

He asked me:
"Do you love me?"
I answered, "Of course, God! You are my Lord and Savior!"
Then He asked, "If you were physically handicapped, would you still love me?"

I was perplexed. I looked down upon my arms, legs, and the rest of my body and
wondered how many things I wouldn't...

Paid In Full

Posted by Christina Scovone on Friday, January 6, 2012, In : Forgiven

After living a "decent" life my time on earth came to an end. The first
thing I remember is sitting on a bench in the waiting room of what I thought
to be a courthouse. The doors opened and I was instructed to come in and
have a seat by the defense table. As I looked around I saw the "prosecutor,"
he was a villainous looking gent who snarled, as he stared at me. He
definitely was the most evil person I have ever seen. I sat down and looked
to my left and there sat my lawyer, a kind and gentle loo...

God Still Speaks

Posted by Christina Scovone on Thursday, January 5, 2012, In : Prayer Works

A young man had been to Wednesday night Bible Study.
The Pastor had shared about listening to God and obeying the Lord's voice.
The young man couldn't help but wonder, "Does God still speak to people?"

After the service he went out with some friends for coffee nd they
discussed the message. Several different ones talked about how God had led
them in different ways. It was about ten o'clock when the young man started
driving home. Sitting in his car, he just began to pray, "God. . . If you still...

The Wall Of Cards

Posted by Christina Scovone on Wednesday, January 4, 2012, In : Forgiven

In that place between wakefulness and dreams, I found myself in the room.
There were no distinguishing features except one wall covered with small
index cards. They were like the ones in libraries that list titles by
author or subject in alphabetical order. But these cards, which stretched
from the floor to the ceiling and left to right, had very different readings.

I picked a card and put it back quickly, shocked to realize that I recognized
some of the people on them. And then, without being tol...

I Painted You A Rainbow

Posted by Christina Scovone on Tuesday, January 3, 2012, In : Poems

I will paint you a rainbow as a gift from me,

Then hang it from heaven for the whole world to see.

On a canvas of love I will cover your fears,

With a soft brush I'll dry all your tears.

I will paint you a rainbow with feelings so deep,

My stroke will be gentle, my touch you may keep.

On a palette of words I will tenderly blend,

Colorful thoughts with bright verses to send.

I will paint you a rainbow in reds, blues and gold,

Stretched like loving arms ready to enfold.

And deep in the center of the mo...

A wise woman who was traveling in the mountains found
a precious stone in a stream. The next day she met another
traveler who was hungry, and the wise woman opened her
bag to share her food. The hungry traveler saw the precious
stone and asked the woman to give it to him.
She did so without hesitation.

The traveler left, rejoicing in his good fortune. He knew the
stone was worth enough to give him security for a lifetime.
But a few days later he came back to return the stone to the

One stormy night many years ago, an elderly man and
his wife entered the lobby of a small hotel in
Philadelphia. Trying to get out of the rain, the
couple approached the front desk hoping to get some
shelter for the night.

"Could you possibly give us a room here?" the husband
asked. The clerk, a friendly man with a winning smile,
looked at the couple and explained that there were
three conventions in town.

"All of our rooms are taken," the clerk said. "But I
