Encouragement For February 18:
The
young man just lost his job, he did not even get over the last hurdle
of losing his apartment and car, ans now, moving back home with his
parents he didn't know which way to turn, he prayed and prayed to
God, but could not get an answer. So, he thought of the one place he
knew he could get an answer, his old church. So, he went to see the
old preacher.
Pacing about the preacher's office the young man
ranted about his problems. Finally he clenched his fist and shouted,
"I've begged God to say something to help me. Tell me, Preacher,
why doesn't God answer?"
The old preacher, who sat across
the room, spoke something in reply, the young man could see his lips
moving, but could not hear him. The young man stepped across the
room. "What did you say?" he asked.
The preacher
repeated himself, and although he could hear him saying something, it
was so low that he could not make out what he was saying.
The
young man moved, even closer, across his desk, “I still could not
hear what you are saying?” Once again the preacher repeated
himself, yet again, he could hear something coming out of his mouth,
but it sounded like mumbles to him.
The young man moved even
closer until he was leaning on the preacher's chair. "Sorry,"
he said. "I still didn't hear you."
With their heads
bent together, the old preacher spoke once more. "Sometimes God
whispers, so that we can get closer to Him.”
This time the
young man heard and he understood.
We all want to hear God's
voice, we expect to hear thunder and see lighting, when He gives us
the answers to our problems. While sometimes He will show Himself
Almighty, His greatest response to show Himself Almighty is in His
still small voice.
“But
it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the
Lord GOD, that I may declare all thy works.”
- Psalm 73:28
