Title:
The Living God
Hello
My Friend,
God
may have chosen Israel to put His name out there as the one and only
Living God that blesses those that trust in Him, but they were to be
the example for the rest of the nations to follow. Whenever I see the
name Israel in the Bible I put my own country there because just as
Israel was blessed when they trusted God so is every other nation.
Likewise, if the nation rejects God it gets judged, much of the wars,
natural disasters, and chaos of the world today is God's judgment
upon that nation. The more the nation pushes God out the more it is
going to get judged, but there is an upside to all of this, God's
people, those in Israel or any other nation who believe in and have
received Christ will be saved from that judgment. “I
will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My
help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth. He will not
suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.
Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The
LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.”
- Psalm 121:1-4,7.
Throughout
the Bible you will often read that God is above all gods, of all
nations, or something similar. “Sing
unto the LORD, all the earth; shew forth from day to day his
salvation. Declare
his glory among the heathen; his marvellous works among all nations.
For
great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised: he also is to be feared
above all gods. For all the gods of the people are idols: but the
LORD made the heavens.”
- 1 Chronicles 16:23-26. See the verse, “For
all the gods of the people are idols: but the LORD made the heavens.”
There is only One God, who is alive, and the Creator of all things,
any other god is an idol, a man made god. People make gods out of
everything, objects, statues, pictures, people, but their god will
never save their soul. Only coming to the Living God can a soul be
saved. “Blessed
be the LORD, who hath not given us as a prey to their teeth. Our soul
is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers: the snare is
broken, and we are escaped. Our help is in the name of the LORD, who
made heaven and earth.”
- Psalm 124:6-8.
A
lot of good, saved Christians really do believe that they are serving
the Living God, but sadly, they are serving a false god. Often man
made gods are created when people want to live in sin, yet want God
in their lives too, they justify their actions by creating a God that
would be okay with their living in sin. “They
that trust in the LORD shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be
removed, but abideth for ever. As
the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the LORD is round about
his people from henceforth even for ever. For the rod of the wicked
shall not rest upon the lot of the righteous; lest the righteous put
forth their hands unto iniquity. Do good, O LORD, unto those that be
good, and to them that are upright in their hearts.”
- Psalm 125:1-4.
Believe it or not,
anything can become a persons god, a love interest, a career, a
hobby, money, possessions, anything that is worshiped more than God
Himself becomes a man made god. How does this happen? The soul
desires life and when it is feeling lifeless it will either look to
the flesh or the Spirit (which is God) to find life. If one is
seeking life through the things of the flesh than the soul thirsts
for more to fulfill the flesh, and this is where so many faithful
Christians turn from the Living God to a man made god, they still
want God in their lives, but they also want to fulfill their flesh.
“For
the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the
flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot
do the things that ye would.”
- Galatians 5:17.
People can trust in their false gods all
they want, they can trust in their fame, fortune, talents, or
success, but unless they know the Living God they will not be saved.
“Charge
them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor
trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us
richly all things to enjoy; That they do good, that they be rich in
good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; Laying up in
store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that
they may lay hold on eternal life.”
- 1 Timothy 6:17-19.
Now, God is forgiving to all who sin,
regardless if they stop or not, those who are saved are saved by
grace, not works, but that does not mean He condones the sin or lets
us get away with it. We can however, get right with the Living God
and make things easier for ourselves until we see Jesus face to face.
Just seek the Living God, it's that simple. “Out
of the depths have I cried unto thee, O LORD. Lord, hear my voice:
let thine ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications. If
thou, LORD, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand? But
there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared. I wait
for the LORD, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope.”
- Psalm 130:1-5.
People can continue to ignore the truth,
they can trust in their false god, but the truth
is that there is only One God. Now, God is in three persons in God,
God, the Father, Jesus, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, but all three
are One God. “For
there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and
the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.”
- I John 5:7. Jesus is the Word made flesh, “In
the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word
was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made
by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. And the
Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory,
the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and
truth.”
- John 1:1-3,14. It is important that we understand that even though
we have One God, we need all three persons to Him know Him. Without
the Father, we do not exist, without the Son we cannot know the
Father, and without the Holy Spirit we cannot know the Son or the
Father.
This can be a bit confusing, but if you think about
it, we can all be three persons in one, I am a daughter, a sister,
and an aunt, I am still one woman, but am also three different people
at the same time. Yet, without one of them I would not be any of
them. Since Jesus is the Word made flesh that means that we are to
know Jesus, the only way to know Jesus is to accept Him as our
Savior. Once you know Jesus, the Father knows you and the Holy Spirit
moves in to help you learn His Word. You see, that is why it is
important to know that while there is only One God, we need all three
persons in Him in order to learn, understand, and do what God brought
us here to do. “Likewise
the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we
should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh
intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he
that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit,
because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will
of God.”
- Romans 8:26,27.
The most important thing of all is knowing
the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, He alone is the only
way to reach the Living God. Without Jesus everything just exists,
you might enjoy things for a season, but it will not last. True hope
and faith only comes through Jesus Christ who gives us life through
His death, burial, and resurrection. If you have been taught anything
else you have been lied to and are trusting in a man made god. “And
this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this
life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath
not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto
you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that
ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son
of God.”
- I John 5:11-13.
Today's
Prayer:
God, Thank You for sending Your Son to make it easier to have a
relationship with You. While I do not always understand the things I
go through I know that with patience and faith You will give me the
victory. Lord, lead me and guide me, let me learn to completely trust
in You, the only living God, let me not make idols or man made gods
out of anything that seems to bring me comfort, but trust only what
You can give me comfort in. In Jesus' name. Amen.
