Title:
Froward Knowledge
Hello
My Friend,
I
remember when I was younger, and I think I am still like this at
times, that I had a stubbornness and determination in me to do
everything and anything I wanted to do once I set in my mind that I
am going to do it. I have so many useless skills because whatever I
thought I could do I did. Do not get me wrong, I know that the skills
I have are not really useless, whatever I learn I know God has a
reason for it somewhere down the line, even if it is to teach others
not to do it. Knowledge is power, the same knowledge that is used for
good is also used for evil, we need to be very careful how we handle
and distribute knowledge. “Who
is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out
of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. But
if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and
lie not against the truth. This wisdom descendeth not from above, but
is earthly, sensual, devilish. For where envying and strife is, there
is confusion and every evil work. But the wisdom that is from above
is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full
of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.”
- James 3:13-17.
I use to saying knowing too much can be a
bad thing, sometimes I wish I did not know some of the things I
learned, but now I realize that everything I learn does have it's
advantages as long as I am using it for God's glory. Everything we
learn is for God's glory, but even we can profit from it, we just
need to find the wisdom to be able to handle our knowledge. Just
because we know something it does not mean we are wise to handle it,
the only way get wisdom from our knowledge is to seek it from God.
“Doth
not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice? She
standeth in the top of high places, by the way in the places of the
paths. She crieth at the gates, at the entry of the city, at the
coming in at the doors. Unto you, O men, I call; and my voice is to
the sons of man. All
the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing froward
or perverse in them. They
are all plain to him that understandeth, and right to them that find
knowledge. Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge
rather than choice gold. For wisdom is better than rubies; and all
the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.”
- Proverbs 8:1-4,8-11.
The word froward means ornery,
headstrong, unwilling, we all have a little bit of frowardness in us
sometimes, but there are some people like that all the time, they use
knowledge for their own profit and wonder why they have such a rough
time. Anyone can profit some by doing things their own way, but
without God, it will not remain. God's wisdom gives life to
everything, but death comes to all who seek their own wisdom. “The
LORD possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of
old. I
was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth
was. When there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were
no fountains abounding with water. Before the mountains were settled,
before the hills was I brought forth: While as yet he had not made
the earth, nor the fields, nor the highest part of the dust of the
world.
Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children: for blessed are they
that keep my ways. Hear
instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not. Blessed is the man that
heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my
doors. For
whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the LORD.
But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that
hate me love death.”
- Proverbs 8:22-26,32-36.
There
is an amazing message to be found within these verses, proving that
the words Solomon penned down were inspired by God, this is Jesus
talking, well before He came to earth. Jesus is the same, He has
always been and will always be, He is God in the flesh. “I
am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending,
saith
the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the
Almighty. I am
he
that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore,
Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.”
- Revelation 1:8,18.
As I have been reading through the
Psalms and Proverbs I wondered, “Could people get saved today just
by reading the Old Testament?” The answer, yes they could, because
it's all about Jesus too, they had to trust in the LORD to give them
life. God made it simple for is to receive knowledge of Him and be
wise enough to believe in Christ for our salvation, froward people
make it hard. “Whoso
is simple, let him turn in hither: as for him that wanteth
understanding, she saith to him, Come,
eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled. Forsake
the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding. He that
reproveth a scorner getteth to himself shame: and he that rebuketh a
wicked man getteth himself a blot. Reprove not a scorner, lest he
hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee. Give instruction
to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he
will increase in learning. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of
wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.”
- Proverbs 9:4-10.
God loves to give us wisdom, He gives it
to all who ask Him for it, but if one is not willing to learn His
way, He will keep them guessing. You know the saying, “You can't
teach an old dog new tricks.” This is true in a sense because some
people are just froward to the truth, they are unwilling to do things
God's way and sadly, they will be the ones who will suffer the most.
While God's people may suffer, even fall a few times, they will
survive, but the froward will not, “When
pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom. The
integrity of the upright shall guide them: but the perverseness of
transgressors shall destroy them. Riches profit not in the day of
wrath: but righteousness delivereth from death. The righteousness of
the perfect shall direct his way: but the wicked shall fall by his
own wickedness. The righteousness of the upright shall deliver them:
but transgressors shall be taken in their own naughtiness. They
that are of a froward heart are abomination to the LORD: but such as
are upright in their way are his delight. Though
hand join in hand, the wicked shall not be unpunished: but the seed
of the righteous shall be delivered.”
- Proverbs 11:2-6,20,21.
We all have a choice, we can use our
knowledge to seek God's wisdom in how to use it and be profitable or
we can seek our own and fall. I know that as long as I am in God's
will I grow and see so many more blessings than when I try to do them
on my own. We are truly profitable when using our knowledge God's
way. “Blessed
is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor
standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the
scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law
doth he meditate day and night. And
he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth
forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and
whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.”
- Psalm 1:1-3.
Today's
Prayer:
God, I want to be profitable in everything that I do, give me Your
power, wisdom, and guidance to use my knowledge for Your glory. I
know that as long as I do things Your way I will always be blessed,
but I also know I can be froward sometimes. Keep me in Your Word to
learn and understand how to use my knowledge not only to please You,
but to be of help to others as well. As I follow Your way I am
trusting in You to bring forth my fruit when I am ready to receive
it. In Jesus' name. Amen.
