Title:
Fearing God
Hello
My Friend,
You
will often hear the phrase “Fear the Lord” or “Fear God” in
some form throughout the Bible. Many people, including Christians,
misunderstand what it actually means to, “Fear God.” A lot of
people have actually walked away from God or refuse to let Him be a
part of their lives because they are told to, “Fear God.” So,
what does fearing God mean? To love God with all our heart, mind, and
soul. When we love Him with all our heart, mind, and soul, we take
pleasure in Him being a part of our lives. “The
works of the LORD are
great, sought out of all them that have pleasure therein. His
work is
honourable and glorious: and his righteousness endureth for ever. He
hath made his wonderful works to be remembered: the LORD is
gracious and full of compassion. The
fear of the LORD is
the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do
his
commandments:
his praise endureth for ever.”
- Psalm 111:2-4,10.
As a Christian learns to fear God they
learn to live a morally, uncorrupted life, and enjoy life much more.
God will take the most corrupted person,
convert them, and satisfy every need and desire they have simply by
living in the fear of God. Jesus Said, “Now
ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you. If ye
keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept
my Father's commandments, and abide in his love. These things have I
spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy
might be full.”
- John 15:3,10,11. Abiding with Jesus is what gives us the desire to
follow God's commands and find much joy in following them.
Let
me tell you something, the world and people who live in it does not
care about anyone, all they see are dollar signs and people
worshiping them. Go to someone who lives in the world and ask them
for help when you have nothing and see what you get. Nothing! Our
nation is quickly falling because of this very reason. We better get
our priorities straight before it is too late, life does not just end
when we die here on earth. “Boast
not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring
forth. Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a
stranger, and not thine own lips. Hell
and destruction are never full; so the eyes of man are never
satisfied.”
- Proverbs 27:1,2,20.
Those who think they have everything
they need without Christ in their lives will
literally have hell to pay for rejecting Him. “And
death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second
death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was
cast into the lake of fire.”
- Revelation 20:14,15. Part of fearing
God means believing and following all of His Word. Ignorance does not
save a person, no one escapes hell unless they know Jesus Christ
personally as their Savior. “For
the wages
of sin
is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ
our Lord.”
- Romans 6:23.
Many assume fearing God means that they have to
be afraid of Him. Well, they should be afraid of Him, He is their
Creator, He gives us every ability that we have and all the thanks He
gets is rebellious, immoral, and corrupted behavior from those who
were made in His own image. How would you feel if your child rebelled
against every thing that you tried to teach him? “They
that forsake the law praise the wicked: but such as keep the law
contend with them. Evil
men understand not judgment: but they that seek the LORD understand
all things.
Better is
the poor that walketh in his uprightness, than he
that is
perverse in
his
ways, though he be
rich.”
- Proverbs 28:4-6.
Fearing God means having respect for Him
and just listening to and doing something He has asked us to do once
in a while. He does not expect us to be perfect, no one is perfect,
except Jesus, but He does expect us to start somewhere. “As
newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow
thereby: If
so be ye have tasted that the Lord is
gracious.”
- 1 Peter 2:2,3.
Fearing God also means seeking forgiveness
of sins, God
knows who you are, what you do, did, and will do, after all, you are
His creation. So, you messed up, get over it, seek His forgiveness,
accept the responsibility for your actions, and move forward. God
does not want us to go through needless suffering, but we bring it
all on our own because we do not listen to Him. “He
that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and
forsaketh them
shall have mercy. Happy
is
the man that feareth alway: but he that hardeneth his heart shall
fall into mischief. A
faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste to
be rich shall not be innocent. To
have respect of persons is
not good: for for a piece of bread that
man will transgress. He that hasteth to be rich hath
an evil eye, and considereth not that poverty shall come upon him. He
that is of a proud heart stirreth up strife: but he that putteth his
trust in the LORD shall be made fat.”
- Proverbs 28:13,14,20-22,25.
When we rely on God and His
Word it will result in fearing Him, and receiving things we never
imagined, even the things we desire. In fact, when we learn to fear
God, we will learn to desire better things as the old things we
desire are no longer something we think we need. “If
a wise man contendeth with a foolish man, whether he rage or laugh,
there
is
no rest. The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to
himself
bringeth his mother to shame. When
the wicked are multiplied, transgression increaseth: but the
righteous shall see their fall. Correct
thy son, and he shall give thee rest; yea, he shall give delight unto
thy soul. Where there
is
no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is
he. The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in
the LORD shall be safe. Many
seek the ruler's favour; but every
man's judgment cometh
from the LORD.”
- Proverbs 29:9,15-18,25,26.
Wisdom
covers every aspect of life: physical, moral, spiritual, financial,
and our social well-being. The basic difference between the wise man
and the foolish is in the use each makes of their time, talents, and
material possessions. The road followed by the wise is narrower and
more difficult, but it brings happiness, satisfaction, peace, and
eternal life. However, the broad road of the fool always leads to
immorality, corruption, and ultimately death. No one is forced to
follow God, yet no one is forced to end up in hell either, the choice
is ours. “Enter
ye in at the strait gate: for wide
is
the
gate, and broad
is
the
way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in
thereat:
Because
strait
is
the
gate, and narrow
is
the
way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.”
- Matthew 7:13,14.
Today's
Prayer:
God, I want to live in Your will and see the many more blessings You
have to give me by fearing You. Give me Your power, strength, and
might to fear You with godly fear, to live in Your will and study to
prove myself honorable and ready to handle any situation that comes
by way. Let me be transformed by renewing my mind to fear You in all
that I do. In Jesus' name. Amen.
