Whether
a person is a Christian or not everyone faces criticism and judgment
from others, however those who judge others have no room to judge as
they themselves have faults. In fact many people will find and point
out faults of others in order to make themselves look less revealing.
Coincidentally, there are different types of judgment, there
is of course hypocrisy, which is severely criticizing and deceiving
others while appearing helpful. And there is discernment, which is
the ability to form an objective opinion based on ones abilities or
mistakes.
True Christian's will not criticize one's faults,
but help each other improve them. Also, true Christian's will not get
offended when they are confronted by any error that others have
noticed.
Scriptures About Hypocrisy (Critical
Judgment):
"Judge not, that ye be
not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged:
and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. And
why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but
considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Or how wilt
thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye;
and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, first
cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see
clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye." -
Matthew 7:1-5
"Therefore thou art
inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou
judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest
the same things. But we are sure that the judgment of God is
according to truth against them which commit such things. And
thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things,
and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?"
- Romans 2:1-3
"Servants, obey in
all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice,
as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God; And
whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto
men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the
inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ. But he that doeth wrong
shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no
respect of persons." - Colossians 3:22-25
Scriptures
About Judging (Discernment):
"But
the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for
they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they
are spiritually discerned. But he that is spiritual judgeth all
things, yet he himself is judged of no man. For who hath known the
mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? but we have the mind of
Christ." - I Corinthians 2:14-16
"Judge
not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment."
-7:24
