The Truth About Dinosaurs

God Said: "Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so." - Genesis 1:24.

God created animals of all kind directly before He spoke the words that would bring man into existence. It's sad to think that many people believe that God is the Creator of all things, but few realize He created the dinosaurs. Of course, we know that dinosaurs existed, but the question is when were they actually here.

About The Word Dinosaur
The word "dinosaur" is not found anywhere in the Bible. This is because the word dinosaur was not invented until the mid 1800's. The "King James Bible" was translated into English in 1611, but that doesn't mean that the animals we now call dinosaurs are not in the Bible. It just means that if they are in the Bible, they are called by a different name. The Bible says that Adam named all the animals that God created. So to find the dinosaurs we will have to look for the original Hebrew names given to these creatures.

The original name given to the dinosaurs would more accurately describe these animals and their disposition. The word dinosaur means terrible lizard and though they became a menace to man after sin had entered the earth, the dinosaurs were not created that way. Dinosaurs are one of the most beautiful of Gods creations. They were created to peacefully coexist with man. From the physical descriptions of some of the great creatures of the Bible, it is easy to see where dinosaurs fit in.

The evidence that contradicts the Theory of Evolution is not often shown to the general public. Leaving people with the incorrect belief that Evolution is true. Many Christians trust man's theories more than the True Word of God, others are left in the position of not knowing what to believe. Some they often compromise what the Bible says. They try to reconcile two completely opposing viewpoints of our origins or they try to add evolution to the Bible, hoping a Biblical compromise will give credibility to the Genesis account. But, in actuality this compromise causes the Bible to lose credibility not gain it. For if the very first words of the Bible cannot be trusted as true history, then why should anyone hold the remainder of the Bible in any higher regard?
So, if dinosaurs were in the Bible, what would you expect it to say about them?
a. That they were created by God to live peacefully with man, and the other animals?
b. That dinosaurs lived millions of years before man. Existing in a violent death filled world?

The second suggestion is not possible because from a Biblical perspective, Dinosaurs could not have lived and died before man brought sin and death into the world. This information should be enough for the believer to answer the question on how dinosaurs fit in with Biblical history.

How Dinosaurs Fit in The Bible
There has been such a lack of study by Christians of the Bible, that many can not answer this question. Growing up, many have been taught so many evolutionary teachings that they do not question evolution, they question the Bible. We were repeatedly told that dinosaurs lived millions of years ago, if you are told something repeatedly, year after year, you will begin to believe it, even if it is not true. The amazing thing is there is no evidence to support the belief that dinosaurs lived millions of years ago. In fact, the physical evidence contradicts this very idea.

The Carbon Date of A Dinosaur Bone
Dinosaur bones that are carbon dated give dates of only a few thousand years old . not millions like evolutionists claim. Incidentally, dinosaur bones are NOT actually carbon dated. They are assigned an age based on how old someone thinks they are, based upon the geologic column. Many people are under the false impression that carbon dating proves that dinosaurs and other extinct animals lived millions of years ago. What many do not realize is that carbon dating is not used to date dinosaurs.

The reason? Carbon dating is only accurate back a few thousand years. So if scientists believe that a creature lived millions of years ago, then they would need to date it another way, but there is the problem. They assume dinosaurs lived millions of years ago, instead of thousands of years ago like the bible says. They ignore evidence that does not fit their preconceived notion.

What would happen if a dinosaur bone were carbon dated?  At Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Scientists dated dinosaur bones using the Carbon dating method. The age they came back with was only a few thousand years old. This date did not fit the preconceived notion that dinosaurs lived millions of years ago. So what did they do? They threw the results out. And kept their theory that dinosaurs lived millions of years ago instead.

Scripture Proving Dinosaurs in The Bible
It is not unusual to see animals referred to with names we don't recognize. If you look in any Bible dictionary under animals, you will see lots of animals and their original Hebrew names. For example who would recognize the word "namer" as being the cheetah? Or "akbar" as being the mouse? The translation of many animal names from Hebrew was quite easy. Scholars could look at the physical descriptions and apply the appropriate English name. But when the translators came to the animal called "Behemoth" they didn't know what animal it was because no living animal fit that description. So in the English bible, they kept this animal's original Hebrew name. Some commentators have suggested that the Behemoth could be a hippo, or an elephant. but both of these suggestions ignore the physical description of the Behemoth given in the Bible.

The Behemoth
The word "Behemoth" means "Giant, kingly beast".
"Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth grass as an ox. Lo now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the navel of his belly. He moveth his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his stones are wrapped together. His bones are as strong pieces of brass; his bones are like bars of iron. He is the chief of the ways of God: he that made him can make his sword to approach unto him. Surely the mountains bring him forth food, where all the beasts of the field play. He lieth under the shady trees, in the covert of the reed, and fens. The shady trees cover him with their shadow; the willows of the brook compass him about. Behold, he drinketh up a river, and hasteth not: he trusteth that he can draw up Jordan into his mouth. He taketh it with his eyes: his nose pierceth through snares." - Job 40:15-18.

The Attributes of The Behemoth
It “eats grass like an ox.”
It “moves his tail like a cedar.” (In Hebrew, this literally reads, “he lets hang his tail like a cedar.”
Its “bones are like beams of bronze,
His ribs like bars of iron.”
“He is the first of the ways of God.”
“He lies under the lotus trees,
In a covert of reeds and marsh.”
Some Bibles and study Bibles will translate the word “behemoth” as “elephant” or “hippopotamus.” Others will put a note at the edge or bottom of the page, stating that behemoth was probably an elephant or a hippopotamus. Although an elephant or hippopotamus can eat grass (or lie in a covert of reeds and marsh), neither an elephant or a hippopotamus has a “tail like a cedar” (that is, a tail like a large, tapered tree trunk).

The Leviathan
This word “Leviathan” means “tanniyn” which means "reptile"
"Canst thou draw out leviathan with an hook? or his tongue with a cord which thou lettest down? Canst thou put an hook into his nose? or bore his jaw through with a thorn?...Out of his mouth go burning lamps, and sparks of fire leap out. Out of his nostrils goeth smoke, as out of a seething pot or caldron. His breath kindleth coals, and a flame goeth out of his mouth. In his neck remaineth strength, and sorrow is turned into joy before him. The flakes of his flesh are joined together: they are firm in themselves; they cannot be moved. His heart is as firm as a stone; yea, as hard as a piece of the nether millstone." - Job 41:1,2,19-24

"Thou didst divide the sea by thy strength: thou brakest the heads of the dragons in the waters. Thou brakest the heads of leviathan in pieces, and gavest him to be meat to the people inhabiting the wilderness." - Psalm 74:13,14

"So is this great and wide sea, wherein are things creeping innumerable, both small and great beasts. There go the ships: there is that leviathan, whom thou hast made to play therein." - Psalm 104:25,26

"In that day the LORD with his sore and great and strong sword shall punish leviathan the piercing serpent, even leviathan that crooked serpent; and he shall slay the dragon that is in the sea." - Isaiah 27:1.

The Attributes of Leviathan:
“No one is so fierce that he would dare stir him up.”
“Who can open the doors of his face, with his terrible teeth all around?”
“His rows of scales are his pride, shut up tightly as with a seal; one is so near another that no air can come between them; they are joined one to another, they stick together and cannot be parted.”
“His sneezings flash forth light, and his eyes are like the eyelids of the morning. Out of his mouth go burning lights; sparks of fire shoot out. Smoke goes out of his nostrils, as from a boiling pot and burning rushes. His breath kindles coals, and a flame goes out of his mouth.”
“Though the sword reaches him, it cannot avail; nor does spear, dart, or javelin. He regards iron as straw, and bronze as rotten wood. The arrow cannot make him flee; slingstones become like stubble to him. Darts are regarded as straw; he laughs at the threat of javelins.”
“On earth there is nothing like him, which is made without fear.”
Leviathan “played” in the “great and wide sea”
Leviathan is a “reptile that is in the sea.”

Many fossil dinosaur skulls contain unexplained, empty passages. Scientists have not been able to guess the reason for these passages. Would it make sense that some dinosaurs used these passages as “gas tanks” for the combustible mixture used to “breathe fire?” We believe it does.

Dragons
The Bible uses the word "Dragon" several times in both the Old and New Testaments. Many people have assumed that the Biblical Dragon is an imaginary creature. However, the Biblical Dragon is a real animal with a firm foundation in reality. One major reason for the Biblical Dragon being dismissed as imaginary is the image most people already have formed in their heads of what a dragon would look like. The first image that comes to mind when someone says the word "dragon", is of a large four legged reptile with wings, but that is merely speculation from years of fairy tale stories. I believe that the Biblical "dragons" are actually Dinosaurs.

Here are some facts about Dragons:
1. Not all Dragons were large terrifying creatures, some were quite small.
2. Not all Dragons had wings or could fly. Many dragons were wingless creatures.
3. Not all Dragons could emit fire, as shown in today’s paintings of them.
4. Dragons were Not mythical creatures. But rather real animals with a strong foundation in reality.

"Thou didst divide the sea by thy strength: thou brakest the heads of the dragons in the waters. Thou brakest the heads of leviathan in pieces, and gavest him to be meat to the people inhabiting the wilderness." - Psalm 74:13,14.

"But wild beasts of the desert shall lie there; and their houses shall be full of doleful creatures; and owls shall dwell there, and satyrs shall dance there. And the wild beasts of the islands shall cry in their desolate houses, and dragons in their pleasant palaces: and her time is near to come, and her days shall not be prolonged." - Isaiah 13:21,22.

"And the parched ground shall become a pool, and the thirsty land springs of water: in the habitation of dragons, where each lay, shall be grass with reeds and rushes." - Isaiah 35:7

"Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert. The beast of the field shall honour me, the dragons and the owls: because I give waters in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert, to give drink to my people, my chosen." - Isaiah 43:19,20.

When reading the Bible you will find many verses that speak of dragons. For the most part anytime you see the word "dragon" you can substitute it for "dinosaur" and the verse makes much more sense.
